December Issue: Nature

In the December issue, we explore photography’s long-standing obsession with nature. We also have dispatches from Germany, with reports from the biennial Photokina trade show in Cologne, and PhotoBook: Reset at C/O Berlin.

Todd Hido’s latest project, Bright Black World, warns of environmental disaster, via icy landscapes harking back to the Romantics. Lena C Emery’s project, Yuka & The Forest, celebrates Japan’s cultural connection with the forest. In contrast, Yoshinori Mizuytani’s work HDR-nature, also featured, takes a sharply critical look at the genre of nature photography.

In Agenda, we preview Bauhaus and Photography at NRW Forum in Düsseldorf (DE), plus we feature Dan Wood’s latest book set in South Wales (UK), Gap in the Hedge. We also meet colour pioneer Harry Gruyaert.

In Projects we have three new series from Michael Poulas, Joel Hunn and Daniel Siegersma. In our Intelligence section, we report on the world’s biggest camera show, Photokina, and Reset, an event focussing on the ‘crisis’ of the photobook.
